Life as an Apprentice Commissioning Support Assistant!

Hey Dexter, tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Dexter Chipeni, I’m 22 years old and I am an Apprentice Commissioning Support Assistant. I started at the council as a level 3 apprentice but after completing this I moved on to level 4. I’m a big football fan and play on weekends… also, I support Liverpool!

How long have you been in your role and what were you doing before?

Before joining the council I was in school and did A-levels in IT, Business and Sociology, I did do psychology at AS level as well. I joined the council soon after my last exam (before I had received my results) in August 2016.

What do you get up to within your role?

Being a Commissioning Support Apprentice means I have been given a chance to be involved in loads of different projects in commissioning, I particularly enjoy the work we do with children and young people in our youth forum groups; children in care council and the Wiltshire youth union. As an apprentice, you are entitled to 20% ‘off the job’ training and during this time I work towards completing my Level 4 Business qualification.

What’s the best thing about being an Apprentice Commissioning Support Assistant?

It's great being surrounded by so many people who are so experienced with commissioning, at this point in my career I think it's great to be able to learn from as many people as possible.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of applying for a role at Wiltshire Council?

Do it! Wiltshire council is a great organisation to work for and they consistently encourage professional development.
